Hi Kristine,
Making your own save the dates will most likely save you money, but how much depends on several factors: the paper you choose to print on, what else you need to invest in (paper trimmer, embellishments, envelopes, etc.), and how smoothly things go (for example, if you need to re-print a bunch of them you will spend both more paper and ink on the project than if they all print correctly right away).
